Announcements
Offertory Clerks for the month of July are Arlene Ingle & Mary Ann Stoner.
Special needs for the Good Shepherd Kitchen at this time are mayonnaise and herbs & spices.
Neighborhood Cook-out: Springwood is sponsoring a third neighborhood BBQ for our church family and the people of Carson Farms East on this Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. It is at Al Zaiser's house (117 Cale Street). This will be a time of food and fun for all ages. Through this we also hope to make some new friends in the neighborhood and serve up a good time.
The Wednesday Evening Bible study will not meet this week or next.
There will be no Choir practice this week.
Mexico Mission Trip: The trip was canceled this year as too many of the team members were unable to go for various reasons. We know that many of you donated money toward this trip at a fund-raising luncheon in May. That money will be used to support those going on the West Virginia Mission Trip and toward future mission trips taken by Springwood Church.
VBS needs your plants!! Do you have trees or plants that we could borrow for the week of July 14-18? If so, please bring them to the fellowship hall by July 13, with your name on them. You may pick them up on Sunday, July 20.
VBS Kick-off and Volunteer Appreciation! Please join us Sunday, July 13 between 2pm and 5pm, to help set up for VBS. We need strong men to help move some tables, ladies to help with decorations, and children to give the final approval! In appreciation for all of your help, we will be serving Zack's hotdogs at 5pm!
VBS 2008 is sure to be great! Join us for a Rainforest Adventure, July 14-18 from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Everyone is invited! As always, volunteers are appreciated! If you would like to help with this year's VBS, please contact Ashley Geise at 336-675-2245 or .
A Congregational Meeting has been scheduled to occur on Sunday, July 20th following worship for the purpose of dissolving the pastoral relationship between Springwood Church and the Reverend Don Kerns. Don and family will be moving to Arlington, Tennessee (Memphis area) to start a new church site for Advent Presbyterian Church.
A Transition Team of several elders and led by Ann Jennings has been formed to oversee the departure of the Kerns family, to determine pastoral and pulpit supply as Don leaves, and to call an interim pastor. The full-time interim pastor will pastor Springwood over the next year or so as it performs a mission study, selects persons to form a Pastor Nominating Committee, and proceeds to do God's work in our community. Your Transition Team is already busy taking care of its work.
www.springwoodchurch.org: Check it out! Our church web-site has been overhauled. The new site contains more information and photos, as well as many new sections.

More than 1 in 4
The chance that the hot dogs and pork sausages consumed on the Fourth of July originated in Iowa. The Hawkeye State was home to 17.6 million market hogs and pigs on March 1, 2008. This represents more than one-fourth of the nation's total. North Carolina (9 million) and Minnesota (6.7 million) were the runners-up.

6.8 billion pounds
Total production of cattle and calves in Texas in 2007. Chances are good that the beef hot dogs, steaks and burgers on your backyard grill came from the Lone Star State, which accounted for about one-sixth of the nation's total production. And if the beef did not come from Texas, it very well may have come from Nebraska (4.7 billion pounds) or Kansas (4.1 billion pounds).
