Marybeth Asher-Lawson undertook her duties as Pastor at Springwood on November 13, 2017. Born and raised in Daytona Beach, FL, (her mother is from Reidsville) she is a graduate of the University of Texas (B.S., Education). She received her Master of Divinity at Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, GA.
Marybeth is a PCUSA pastor with 24 years of pastoral ministry experience. After first working as a primary school teacher in Texas and Kentucky, she began her ministry in Philadelphia as Associate Pastor of Grace Presbyterian Church, Jenkintown. In 2000 she and her family moved to Hong Kong where she served international churches with the permission of Philadelphia Presbytery. In addition to preaching, teaching, and pastoral care, Marybeth loves working with children and young people. Last summer Marybeth and her family returned to the USA after 16 years in Hong Kong.
She is glad to be back home where the tea is sweet and the sky is big. When not at church, Marybeth can usually be found in her home or garden in Burlington or drinking tea with friends.
Marybeth's husband Scott Lawson, also a PCUSA tentmaker pastor, is now serving as Part-time Stated Supply Pastor at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church in nearby Saxapahaw. He also owns New World Consulting, which provides services to socially conscious non-profits, B-Corps, Social Enterprises and other commercial organizations. Scott is an avid long distance bicycler and he loves to play acoustic and electric guitars. Marybeth and Scott have one daughter, Grace, a senior design student at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.

“Energetic”, “patient”, “joyful”, “great personality”, “God-loving”, “talented”, “fun”, “thoughtful”…. These are the words that our choir members used when asked to describe our new church music leader, Sarah Jones. (Those same words above also could be used to describe our choir members, so this is definitely a match made in heaven!) Sarah is currently studying at University of North Carolina, Greensboro in the Bachelor of Arts (Vocal Music) area. She has served as accompanist at First Baptist Church Thomasville and as Praise Team Co-leader at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Pittsboro. In addition to her music ministry, Sarah has her own photography business. She has a very full life using her vast God-given gifts. Sarah is a delight to work with, and we praise God for sending her to us to make a joyful noise to the Lord at Springwood.
Brad volunteers his time twice a week at Springwood. He's an avid sports fan who cheers the rest of us on in our work. We are grateful for all Brad does around the church.
