Our Playschool Staff of experienced and well-trained teachers will nurture children by embodying and teaching the love of Jesus and modeling what it is to be kind, thought-filled, and compassionate.  We keep a low teacher-to-student ratio (1:8).  Teachers strive to build positive relationships with parents as well as children, and we welcome parental involvement at Playschool.

 

​​​​Director, Lindy Halverson 

Lindy earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Speech & Language Pathology from the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point, and served many years as a speech and language clinician in the early childhood and elementary school setting.  When Lindy’s children went to playschool, she transitioned into early childhood work and taught in classrooms for 3- and 4-year-olds.  For the past 13 years she served as Director of First Presbyterian Church Playschool in Burlington, and just retired last year.  We are blessed to have Lindy leading our Playschool.

​​​​4-year-old Lead Teacher, Sheri Whitney

Sheri Whitney lives in Graham, NC with her husband and 3 kids.  She has 14 years experience working with preschoolers and believes they learn best through play.  Sheri loves to sing with the children everyday and also with the worship team at her church. Mrs. Sheri does a great job of getting the 4-year-olds ready for Kindergarten.

​​​​​​4-year-old Playschool Assistant, Nika Coate

Nika recently moved to NC after living in states from CA to FL to VA, serving in the Navy for 12 years.  She is currently finishing her Associate's degree for General Studies in Computers.  She speaks 3 languages - Latin, Spanish & English.  She is a 'dog mom' of a small rescue puppy, Mocha Chip. She has a background of caring for children with special needs and disabled adults and has always felt a connnection with children of all ages.  She believes children can teach you more about the world, and yourself, as well  as remind you of important things.  She enjoys exploring new spots that have their own flair, visiting coffee shops, listening to music and walking  & hiking in nature.

​​3-year-old Co-teacher, Susan Morefield

Susan received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Greensboro College in Social Issues/Education Interdisciplinary Major.  She is married to her wonderful husband, Joseph and they have 2 boys, Jacob and Sawyer.  They share their home with their older cat named Angel.
 

Susan works with children because she loves to interact with them, watching how they learn and transform. Spending time with her family, going on trips and hiking are at the top of her list of favorite activities.  She loves to paint and is learning how to garden.

​3-year-old  Co-teacher, Traci Gonet

Traci is happily married to Brent and they have two sons. She believes children are the joy of the world.  She enjoys cooking, hiking, swimming and having adventures with her family.  Traci loves to find and wear fun and unusual earrings.

​

She loves horses and spent her youth in the stable competing in three-day events (dressage, show jumping, & cross country jumping).  In her spare time, she dabbles in fluid art.

4-year-old Playschool Assistant, Michelle Gammon

Michelle is a quiet, gentle spirit with a deep love for caring for children. She brings calm, patience, and kindness into the classroom, creating a warm and nurturing environment where little ones feel safe, supported, and encouraged to grow. Michelle is married to Greg, and their daughter, Emma attended Springwood Playschool for 2 years where she thrived and enjoyed learning.  In Michelle's spare time, she enjoys painting and crafting.
