Pastor
Marybeth Asher-Lawson
​
Marybeth was called to be Pastor of Springwood on November 13, 2017. Born and raised in Daytona Beach, FL, (her mother is from Reidsville) she is a graduate of the University of Texas (B.S., Education). She received her Master of Divinity at Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, GA. Marybeth is a PCUSA pastor with over 30 years of pastoral ministry experience. After first working as a primary school teacher in Texas and Kentucky, she began her ministry in Philadelphia. In 2000, she and her family moved to Hong Kong where she served international churches with the permission of Philadelphia Presbytery until 2016 when they returned to the USA. Marybeth loves working with children and drinking tea with friends. She engages in "procrasti-baking" on Saturdays when the sermon won't gel. She lives with her husband Scott Lawson, who for 35 years has led her in hilarious adventures around the world. Scott is an avid cyclist and he loves to play acoustic and electric guitars. Marybeth and Scott have one daughter and a new son-in-law whom they love.

Evelyn Crews

Ä’velyn enjoys being creative and leading others in the creative process. She earned her Master of Divinity Degree from Wake Forest University School of Divinity, with a concentration in Art & Spirituality. Ä’velyn's ministry encompasses a wide range of work. She has served as a chaplain in hospitals and senior communities, done ministry to the homeless, and taught art as a spiritual path to healing to various groups of folks. She served as the pastor of First Baptist Church in Mt. Gilead, and has joined our team at Springwood to help us implement our vision here. When not at work, Ä’velyn can be found enjoying rock concerts, hiking in the woods, or spending time here or abroad with her four fabulous grown children.

Anita Newkirk
​
Anita is a native of NC. She retired from Chapel Hill Transit after serving them for 30 years where she did a variety of tasks from driving to supervising. She has two grandchildren that she adores and volunteers in her church fellowship. She is a person who loves to help people and believes God called her to be an encourager and a helper to those who cross her path. God blessed her with many talents and she loves sharing them with others. She loves the Lord and everyday seeks to be better than she was the day before. Anita migrates to jobs where she can interact with people. She brings a smile everywhere she goes and enjoys a good sense of humor! When not serving, Anita likes to be creative (graphic design) singing, reading, watching TV and traveling with her sister, whenever possible.

Sarah Jones-Ely

“Energetic”, “patient”, “joyful”, “great personality”, “God-loving”, “talented”, “fun”, “thoughtful”…. These are the words that our choir members use when describing our church music leader, Sarah Jones-Ely. She is from Pittsboro and is a graduate of the University of North Carolina, Greensboro, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Music, with a concentration in voice and piano, and minored in photography. She served as an accompanist at First Baptist Church Thomasville and as Praise Team Co-leader at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Pittsboro. Sarah also serves as the accompanist for the Choir at Twin Lakes Community. In addition to her music ministry, Sarah is the barista for Springwood's Milk and Honey Coffee Cafe. When she isn't leading music or making coffee, Sarah loves photography, design, and theatre. Sarah lives with her musically talented husband, Zach Jones-Ely, and their precious daughter, Violet, who is the joy of their lives!

Lisa Griggs is an accomplished bookkeeper with years of experience in the Burlington area. Lisa is an excellent chef who enjoys creating masterful dishes from fresh vegetables grown in the garden. She enjoys a variety of ethnic cuisines, and loves to try new restaurants. She is a yoga master, a fast walker, and enjoys spending time with her husband, Mike, her family, and 2 awesome dogs. Lisa is available to assist with all financial matters at Springwood.

​Angel is a loving, energetic young woman with a natural passion for caring for children. Known for her warm personality and playful spirit, she brings joy and creativity into every activity. With a nurturing heart and strong sense of responsibility, she creates a safe, fun, and engaging environment where children can thrive and feel valued. She is enjoying being a new mother, and we are blessed to have Angel on our ministry team.
